Trans fats are technically unsaturated fats. In cis-fats (healthy) hydrogens are on the same side at the double bond. This gives the molecule a deformed shape that does not pack well. This has an effect of lowering the melting point. In trans-fat the hydrogens are on opposite sides of the double bond. This is more stable and allows tighter packing. Thus trans-fats have higher melting points.

Upon whose life was the movie The Hustler based?

The movie is inspired by the life of pool "shark" Eddie Felson, also known as "Fast Eddie."The movie The Hustler is base loosely on the novel by the same name, which was written by Walter Tevis. However, Tevis always maintained Parker's life was no more than 30 percent of the Felson story. The film also featured a character named Minnesota Fats. There's a misconception that the character Minnesota Fats is based on the real Minnesota Fats . Actually, the character appeared in the book and the film before Wanderone, who up until this time had called himself "New York Fats," appropriated the name. Also, 14-tme pool champion, Willie Mosconi, made a cameo appearance in the movie. He played them man who held the bet between Fast Eddie and Minnesota Fats. He also performed one of the trick shots for the actor.

Which is better trans fats or cis fats?

Trans fats are hydrogenated unsaturated fats and they are supposed to be the worst fats there are for your health. Unsaturated fats are healthy fats and saturated fats and trans fats are unhealthy fats. Trans fats are often added to processed foods to extend the shelf life. There are no such fats as cis fats. There are certainly cis fatty acids and trans fatty acids and the difference between the two is in the hydrogen atoms positions and one could be regarded as an isomer of the other. All fats are basically triglycerides which means glycerol triesterified with 3 fatty acids.

How are trans fats similar to both saturated and unsaturated?

Trans fats made from plant sources of fat. Plant fats tend to comprise mostly of unsaturated fatty acids which is why oils are not solid. They are chemically altered to have more hydrogen which results in them being more solid like animal fats such as butter which are higher in saturated fatty acids. Chemically trans fats are unsaturated fats but structurally they are like saturated fats.
