More than likely the tail light socket is to blame. Over time moisture causes corrosion to build up at the socket-bulb connection. Try carefully cleaning the socket, and inspect it for a short circuit.
Don't forget to check the license plate light or wiring for shorts. Also you can purchase a "short checker" device. This device has a heavy duty circuit breaker to install in place of the fuse. It repeatedly sets and resets 1-5 times a second, allowing current to flow. You then use the hand held amperage meter (included in the kit), to follow the wiring harness. As the circuit draws amperage because of the short, the meter needle moves wildly. When you pass the point of the short, the meter stops moving since there is no current flow after the short. Very effective at tracing a harness. If for instance the wiring harness goes to the left tail light first and then to the right tail light, if the left tail light is shorted, the meter will not move or read for the right tail light as you have passed the "SHORT" point.
If your tail light is blowing a fuse everytime you step on the brakes there maybe a faulty or crossed wire. Have your mechanic check it out to be sure.
the cluster fuse is blown!Replace it!if it blows again you have an electrical short somewhere.
Fuses are designed and intended to protect the wiring from SHORT CIRCUITS and OVERLOADING. When a fuse "blows" instantly upon connecting the trailer wiring to the vehicle wiring connector, suggests a short in the trailer wiring, or one of the light sockets/fixtures. If the fuse did not blow instantly, but over a period of minutes, would be suggestive ofan overload condition. Sinceit blows the tail light fuse, logic suggests the short should be found in the tail light wires or bulb sockets on the trailer. Another possibility, but very remote, is a defect in one or both of the connector plugs. Look for an area ofcut or chaffed insulation onthe trailer tail light wires, where the wire may be "pinched" in a crevicebetween twometal members of the trailer frame, OR where the wire makes a very sharp turn around a metal edge.j3h. you have a short in the tail light wiring of the trailer
Fuse 12, 15 amp located in the fuse block under the instrument panel. This fuse also controls all the instrument indicator lights, so if those are working but not the 4x4 light, then you have trouble in the 4x4 system or the anti-lock brakes as those are tied into the 4x4 system too.
This is the starter fuse I am talking about. It doesn't blow every time. It might go weeks before it blows again.
I have a 1995 neon dodge and my dash lights will not come on or my tail lights and every time i change the airbag fuse and turn on the car the airbag fuse blows.
On most American cars, the dash fuse feeds off the tail light fuse. The tail light fuse is typically 20 amps and the dash fuse feeds off from it and is usually 5 amps. If the tail light fuse blows, you loose the dash lights.
Use a mini 30 amp fuse. If it blows then check for grounds with a test light. If know ground is present, then you can step up the amps in intervals of 5 amps until the fuse doesnt blow.
short in brake light switch located on brake pedal
The dash light fuse gets its power from the tail light fuse. If the tail light fuse blows, you won't have any dash lights either.
First, make sure the bulb is put in right and not shorting out to ground. If that isn't the problem, go back and check everything to see if any wires are damaged and shorted to ground.
you need to get a bigger fuse
You've got what's known as a "dead short" somewhere in the brake light system. This could be a very long and tedious procedure and go through alot of fuses but it's got to be done. First pull out ALL the brake light bulbs, including the 3rd brake light. Look very closely at all the sockets and surrounding wires to see and bare spots. I'm betting you have a problem in one of the brake light housings. Check these out VERY CLOSELY. With NO bulbs in the sockets, put in a new fuse and step on the brake pedal. If the use blows, it's a bare or broken wire somewhere and you've got to manually check every inch of the wiring harness. If the fuse did not blow, replace one bulb at a time and step on the brake pedal. When you put a bulb in and the fuse blows you've found your problem. You may need to replace the whole housing. Good Luck.
brake lgiht fuse blows when shifting gears?
No, of course not. You just have to be careful not to knock it or flick the switch for it repetitively or the fuse will blow. If the fuse blows the light will not work anymore.
Just fixed mine today. The dom light fuse in the engine fuse compartment was blown. The radio/power locks will go out as well if this fuse blows.
Not enough information. WHICH fuse blows out???
Check stop light fuse Check bulbs (double filamented smaller filament is for stop lights larger for taillights) Check alignment and operation of stop light switch
