Well if you really think about it... the children in Africa are malnutritioned. They get as much as what here in U.S. is a cheeseburger. A DAY. They can usually get grain, rice, potatoes. But that is pretty much it, because they don't have the newer ways of farming. And so their agriculture, is quite low. Even some countries have to get help to support their countries from out of the country. For example: Europe.

Please note that this answer is a generalization. There are 54 countries in Africa, contrary to popular belief some actually have a high standard of living and the people are not all impoverished and starving masses are are depicted in the media.

Yes, most certainly there are places like that, but this cannot be considered the "archetype" of Africa

What is life like for children in South Africa?

This is a difficult question to answer as children in South Africa does not represent a homogenous group since South Africa is one of the most unequal countries in the world. Therefore, there is a huge difference in what the life for different children in South Africa is like. For some children life is great, carefree and safe, for others it is the exact opposite. South Africa is a signatory to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, but sadly, life is still very difficult for the majority of South Africa's children.
