Answer #1 If you mean the Broadway musical, it is about how Glinda and the Wicked Witch were friends back in school. It has very good songs. Answer #2 The book 'Wicked' and the play of the same name serve as a prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz'. For there's very little that we know about the Witch from either the original 1900 book edition or the beloved 1939 film version. For example, we know that she is the hated ruler of the Yellow Winkie Country of the West. We know that she wants the Slippers of the Wicked Witch of the East. And we know that the Wizard of Oz wants both witches dead. So the book and the play give ElphabaThropp, who is the Wicked Witch of the West, a chance to tell her side of the story. As a result, readers of the book and viewers of the play learn about the circumstances of her birth, education, family life, love interests, and passionate causes. There are differences between the book and the stage versions. The book is less sympathetic to Elphaba as sister to Nessarose, the Wicked Witch of the East and her father's favorite; and as the green-skinned outsider to 'decent' society. The play is more appealing, with its more sympathetic presentation and with its most appealing music score.

Elphaba Thropp, as the Wicked Witch of the West, plays the main character in the novel 'Wicked'. In the stage version, she shares the role with Glinda the Good Witch. In both versions, she plays the role of the villain. In the book, she is so villainous that it's difficult to see her good qualities. In the stage version, her villainy is exaggerated as part of the character defaming campaign of Madame Morrible and the Wizard of Oz. And in both the book and stage versions, she plays the sister of the Wicked Witch of the East and the love of Fiyero's life.

The Wicked Witch of the West is one of the two lead rolesin 'Wicked', a play of Broadway and of worldwide tours. The Witch is named Elphaba Thropp. In unnamed form, she originally is one of the characters from the original 1900 book edition, and the beloved 1939 film version, of The Wizard of Oz. The other lead role is Galinda, who becomes Glinda the Good Witch. Likewise, Glinda is another character from 'The Wizard of Oz'.

The story of the Wicked Witch of the West may be found in the 1900 book edition, and the 1939 film version, of The Wizard of Oz. But readers and viewers don't get to know much about the nameless, greenskinned Witch other than that she craves the Slippers of the Wicked Witch of the East; dislikes Dorothy Gale, and Dorothy's dog and friends; and fears water. Her story is told, in more depth, in the 1995 book edition, and the 2003 play version, of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. Readers and viewers learn that her name is Elphaba Thropp; her natural father is the Wizard; and younger sister, Wicked Witch Nessarose of the East, is the favorite of the family. They also learn that Elphaba and Glinda the Good Witch are college roommates; Elphaba cares about the well-being of animals; and Elphaba loves Fiyero, the prince of the Winkies. The Witch's end in the 1995 book edition seems to tally with her end in the 1900 book edition, and the 1939 film version. Her end differs in the 2003 play version. And yet that difference is plausible without contradicting the other three sources on her life and times. For each source gives information based on a different point of view. In the 1900 book edition, the viewpoint is the omniscient narrator. In the 1939 film version, it's Dorothy Gale. In the 1995 book version, it's Elphaba Thropp. And in the 2003 play version, it's the viewpoint of Elphaba, and of Glinda.

Angry, organized and relentless describes the character of the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz."

Specifically, the witch shows anger over not having the magic shoes of the Wicked Witch of the East. She shows organization in trapping the five friends and in imprisoning Dorothy Gale and her pet dog Toto. She shows relentlessness in not quibbling about the ethics of the means by which she gets what she wants.

But Dorothy fears the Wicked Witch of the West. For she witnesses the Witch's cruelty. Glinda the Good Witch gives Dorothy the Slippers of the Wicked Witch of the East. The Wicked Witch of the West wants the Slippers, and will do anything to get them. Dorothy realizes this, and keeps up a brave front in the face of a fearsome foe.

Why did Elphaba or The Wicked Witch of the West from Wicked set fire to Fiyero or Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz?

The play takes certain liberties with the source material. I the movie, the Scarecrow has no connection to the witch prior to his travels with Dorothy.

What was the bad witch's name on Wizard of Oz?

It's kind of the point of the story/play that she isn't actually "bad". In fact, it's arguable that the "Good" witch, Glinda, is the true villain. However, assuming you're talking about the green one ... her given name is Elphaba.

What role did the Wicked Witch of the East play?

The Wicked Witch of the East lived in the beautiful, enchanted, magical land of Oz. A day that she was out broom riding, there was a cyclone in Kansas. The twister carried Dorothy Gale's house all the way to Oz. The house just happened to land, and settle, on top of the Witch. She must have been killed instantly. The Wicked Witch of the East's sister, the Wicked Witch of the West, died when Dorothy threw a fatal bucket of water. In response, the Witch melted to the color of brown sugar, and then into nothingness. This is the information as provided by the original 1900 book edition, and the beloved 1939 film version, of 'The Wizard of Oz'. But appearances may be deceiving, according to the stage version of 'Wicked', which is based on the tell all Oz series book, 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West'.

Is the wicked witch of the west dedd?

Yes, in The Wizard of Oz; yes and no, in Wicked. Author and Oz series originator Lyman Frank Baum [May 15, 1856-May 5, 1919] explained that the land of Oz had been taken over by four bad witches of the East, North, South, and West. Two of the bad witches had been replaced by the Good Witch of the North, and by Glinda the Good Witch of the South. Dorothy's house landed on, and killed, the Wicked Witch of the East. That left only the Wicked Witch of the West, whom Dorothy killed with a bucket of water. Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954] is one of the writers who have made contributions to the Oz series since the death of the originator. His book Wicked, on which the play of the same name is based, creates a background of abusive interactions, and a life of emotional disappointments, that had their effect on the evolving character of the Wicked Witch of the West, whom he calls Elphaba Thropp.

Who did Dorothy kill in the Wizard of Oz?

The play 'Wicked' is drawn off of the stage version of The Wizard of Oz. Stephen Lawrence Schwartz [b. March 6, 1948] based his play 'Wicked' on the previous book 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' by Gregory Maguire [b. June 9, 1954].
