The DC-3 remained the primary commercial carrier until the introduction of the Boeing 707 in 1958, and the 707 ruled the airways for the next 20 years. While the DC-3 was certainly very popular due to the large number built during the war, the DC-7, DC-7, Lockheed Constellation, and the Lockheed Electra were the "state of the art" prop and turbo-prop aircraft just prior to the advent of the pure jet transport.
