India was under the British Rule before 15th.August,1947. The country attained independance through a prolonged freedom movement launched by the Indian National Congress under the leadership of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma(great soul). The armed actions taken up by the freedom fighters of Bengal and Panjab, the struggle between the Indian National Army organised by Mr. Subhas Chandra Bose taking active help from Japan and Germany, the uprising of the USSR, the change of world brought about as aftermath of WW2- all these factors compelled the British to quit India. But, the country was divided in two parts, the Indian Republic and the Pakistan on religious ground. So, the freedom the country offered was a split freedom.
In 1798, the first Indian ruler to accept a subsidiary alliance offered by Lord Wellesley was Nizam of Hyderabad. A term of this alliance was that Indian rulers could not have an independent army. Lord Wellesley was the British Governor-General in India at this time.
The policy of the British Government was against encouraging industrial development in India. No incentives were offered to Indian industries for their growth. There were many desired and undesired hurdles placed in the way of the growth of Indian industry. Whatever industrial development took place in India was in spite of the negative and hostile attitude of the British Government .

Because the British were getting food and other materials from India, in return, the Indians got more money through more job availability, as people were hired to work for the trading company. Also, the British supplied new technology and better education in India.

He was a Scottish peer and colonial governor in the American colonies and became royal governor of the Colony of Virginia on 25 September 1771. He is also noted for Lord Dunmore's Proclamation, also known as Lord Dunmore's Offer of Emancipation. Dated 7 November 1775, but proclaimed a week later, Dunmore thereby formally offered freedom to slaves who abandoned their Patriot masters to join the British.
