There are two African countries that receive more average annual rainfall than the others.

One is the island country of São Tomé and Principe, south of Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean). It receives an average of over 3200 mm (125 inches) of annual precipitation.

The most rainfall in contiguous Africa is in Sierra Leone, in southern West Africa. The country receives an average of 2500 mm (98 inches), mostly during its rainy season from May to November.

There are several locations in equatorial Africa that receive more than 200 inches of rain per year.
