I personally like damon, i feel like we're so alike in many things he does bad things but he's true with himself and with elena he always loved elena and i think he always will, but i know some people choose stefan because he plays the role of the "good" man.. yeah it's true but stefan is good with every girl he meets unlike damon he's only good with elena and he's willing to do anything to please her which means he can't live without her but stefan can.

Why does everybody like Ian Somerhalder more than Paul Wesley?
If you are referring to why does everyone like Damon more than Stefan I can't speak for everyone but this is my answer: Damon is the bad-boy type that every girl secretly loves. He's mysterious, sexy, and yes, definitely dangerous, oh yeah and did i mention SEXY? He doesn't play by the rules and instead of being repulsed by himself (like Stefan) he spends his eternity trying to have as good a time as possible. Because of his, ahem, diet, he is also infinitely more powerful than Stefan. In the books, he is one of the most powerful vampires left on Earth. All this, on top of the fact that Damon is willing to do anything at all to be with/protect the girl he loves make him completely irresistible. Stefan, on the other hand, is a lifeless character. In the first season, he is a cookie-cutter Edward Cullen type with very little in his life besides Elena, and the whole self-loathing thing gets old after about 1 episode. People like the actors better because they associate them with their characters, and Damon is clearly the superior choice :) I love Ian Somerhalder more than Paul Wesley because obviously he is the hottest. Also Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder are like the best couple ever. Plus Damon Salvatore he is so awww, I mean he would do absolutely anything for Elena and it is really sad and unfair that his brother Stefan get everything an he gets nothing. Like Rose said Damon is either the best thing for Elena or the worst. I think he is the best thing for her. Damon and Elena have so much fun together, well Damon is the funnest brother. He is so much more fun than Stefan. What happens in the next vampire episode 17?
A great storm approaches Mystic Falls, blocking out rays from the sun and making the roads dangerous. Jeremy keeps trying to convince Anna to turn him, but she refuses. While out hunting, Stefan is captured by Frederic and his friends, who intend to torture him before killing him. Damon goes to the house, realizing he cannot get in because the owner of the house has been compelled not to invite him in. Damon and Elena therefore convince Alaric to work with them to help Stefan. Damon, however, will not allow Elena to come into the house with them. Pearl meets Mayor Lockwood in the Mystic Grill. Meanwhile, Matt is angry with his mother Kelly, but is fearful of pressuring her too much, afraid that she may leave again. Alaric enters the vampire house under the pretext of borrowing the phone. Damon kills the human living in the house, thus enabling him to enter. After her car breaks down in the storm, Caroline discovers the remains of Vicki Donovan in the woods. Matt and Kelly are heartbroken by the news. Damon and Elena rescue Stefan, but a fight erupts in which Damon and Alaric kill most of the vampires. Frederick comes after Elena and Stefan, wounding Stefan badly. Elena has to feed Stefan her blood to revive him. Stefan briefly loses control of himself. Anna agrees to turn Jeremy, but she then figures out (and he does not deny) that the real reason he wanted to be turned was to be with Vicki, whom he now knows to be dead.
