In a way, there has been a remake. William F Brown wrote The Wiz, which was based on L Frank Baum's wizard of Oz. The Wiz was performed on Broadway, with music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, in 1975. It then went into filming, with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson, in 1978.

because it was loved and became a timeless classic,it is better left unchanged

"Tin Man" (2007). Television mini-series. A completely different re-telling of the story. Stars Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Neal McDonough, Kathleen Robertson, Richard Dreyfuss.

Walt Disney made a sequel to the 1939 original in 1985. "Return to Oz". Stars Fairuza Balk, Nicol Williamson, Jean Marsh, Piper Laurie Matt Clark.

When was 'The Wizard of Oz' remade?

There is no remake ... yet ... of "The Wizard of Oz."Specifically, there have been adaptations of the original 1900 book edition and the beloved 1939 film version of "The Wizard of Oz." Examples include "The Wiz" in 1978, "The Muppets' Wizard of Oz" in 2005 and "Tin Man" in 2007. The film "Return to Oz" in 1985 operates as a sequel. But there was talk in 2010 of a prequel in the form of "Oz: The Great and Powerful" and of an actual remake of "The Wizard of Oz" by Robert Zemeckis (b. May 4, 1952).

Who is more famous Wizard of Oz or Star Wars?

Assuming you're reffering to the 1939 Wizard of Oz, a remake of the 1925 movie (there was also a short released in 1910 called "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and a movie from 1914 called "His Majesty, The Scarecrow of Oz"which i don't really know that much about). Judging from amount of votes on IMDb, I'd say that Star Wars is more famous than Star Wars. I don't know what the case is over the in the US. Here though, in Norway, I was aware of the Star Wars films way before Wizard of Oz
