doubt it but I've seen a drop tuning system on fixed bridge Ibanez Guitars, when I play the low E string turn it half way or a quarter of the way depending on how thick your strings are and see if it works. I've never owned a D tuna and never will because of this.
Use of a whammy bar will not damage a guitar. A Floyd Rose however does have the possibility of snapping a string because you can pull the strings tighter, maybe a Bigsby as well. Unless you're pulling up on a standard trem that hasn't been set up properly, a whammy bar won't damage the guitar.
Conceivably you can put a whammy onto any electrice guitar, but it in reality it is a lot of trouble of modification to do so. Answer: You can really only put a whammy bar on a guitar that has a Floyd Rose tremolo bridge. Most Ibanez guitars come with these standard, although some Fender/Squier guitars have a bridge similar to a Floyd Rose, but only whammy bars made by the Fender will fit in the hole. (at least what I've tried) And it is possible to set up a Floyd Rose on any guitar or bass, it just takes a lot of work, and a lot of knowledge because there are some vital parts in a guitar that you might not know what they're there for, so seek some professional help if you are a little uneasy about modifying your instrument.
If you really need it go for it but remember there's whammy bars that don't require cutting any wood or seriously modifying the guitar to make a whammy bar work... Kahler, Bigsby Stetsbar or something like that. I'd say go with a Jackson or Agile if you really want a explorer with whammy bar, Agile is one of the only companies I know that can go toe to toe with Gibson on quality and sound... just I could buy three maybe four Agiles for the price of one Gibson Explorer. LTD is another brand that make incredible guitars and I've played it all.... no exhaggeration I've owned 17 guitars and I'm not a rich person I buy, sell and repair.
I don't see why not , I used my friends stratocasters whammy bar on my beasts Floyd rose and it worked just fine, didn't feel right though. The best whammy bars I've had so far are 7 string ones.. longer and easier to use.
there are a ton of whammy bars out there and surely at least one will fit. les paul guys I say go with Kahler 2200 stud mounted or stetsbar to bigsby if you want a floyd rose on a guitar it's much , much cheaper to buy a guitar with ir already in it.
yes, as far as i know. most stratocaster style guitars have them installed on them alreadyBrad Sayre, a progressive rock guitarist, has a whammy bar on an acoustic gtr.
Occasionally, rock band guitars are made of"cheaper" quality that guitar hero guitars, and the whammy bars is no exuse for cheapness. i expect your friend uses the whammy bar alot. either get professional help, or tighten it yourself. Unfortunately, that's not as easy as it sounds, and , do you really need the whammy bar?

different tunings, different sounds and pickups ... or some just to show off I guess, theres a million answers for this. I play with three guitars all in different tunings to string gauges, I'd do the same for those reasons.. plus some have whammy bars.

If it's used it depends on the owner if you're buying off say craigslist or ebay. Now .. some squiers I've seen don't have whammy bars but instead hard tail bridges they call it. if the guitars used and doesn't come with one keep looking unless it's an amazing deal like 50-100$ depending on how expensive it is in stores.
a few: most acoustic have limited cutaways- i.e. you can reach the higher frets, action can generally be higher, letting chords ring harder to play solos on no need for an amplifier they do not have tremolos (whammy bars) electro acoustics often have the problem of feedback coming from the soundhole

Fret Or 'whammy bar' which gives a vibrato effect. Often mistakenly called 'Tremolo bars' (thanks Leo Fender)....
