Pop Music stars can influence others for good or for bad, depending on how they act. Rihanna has many fans who love her music, and some of her lyrics are very motivational, while others are just fun and sexy. But she may have influenced her fans in a bad way when she went back to dating Chris Brown, even after he beat her and verbally abused her. This sends a very dangerous message to young girls who admire her. She has also been seen looking as if she parties a lot, and she has shown up late for concerts. And as a high school drop-out, she does not send a message about the importance of education.
But truthfully, Rihanna is a very successful singer and a songwriter; her job is to make hit records and be entertaining, rather than being a role model. Unfortunately, fans do emulate the stars they love, so perhaps they will get an encouraging message (she overcame a troubled childhood and severe migraines to go on to become famous) or perhaps they will get the wrong idea from her partying and her poor choice of boyfriends. It remains to be seen what kind of influence she will have in the future.
