How do you change the wheel bearing hub on 1999 4x4 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo?

Remove the wheel. Push the brake caliper piston back with a prybar or heavy screwdriver to make clearance to remove the caliper. Remove the entire caliper assembly by removing the 2 large bolts with an 18 mm socket and breaker bar.(they are tight!). Remove the rotor. Remove the 4 nuts on the axle retaining ring located behind backing plate using a 9/16" wrench. Attach a slide hammer to the wheel studs on the axle and hammer the axle out. Put the axle in an arbor press and press the bearings off of the axle. Press new bearings, seal and collar back onto the axle. Reassemble the rotor, caliper, etc. This can be done at home if you have access to a slide hammer and arbor press and some basic hand tools.

The requestor was asking about the rear wheel bearing, as am I. There is no disk brake caliper on the rear wheel.....

In the step where he said "Put the axle in an arbor press and press..." That line has omitted some steps. After axle is removed from axle tube, remove the 4 studs from the axle bearing retainer. There is a soft steel retainer ring that must be removed before the bearing can be removed. The soft steel retainer is removed by drilling a 3/8" hole into the ring (don't drill into the axle... stop short of the axle) and splitting the ring off the axle with a cold chisel (this is stated in the service manual.)

Once the retainer ring is off, install bearing splitter press tool between bearing and flange, then place the axle into a press, with blocks under the bearing splitter press tool (KD tools 2264, or OTC 1183). Press and remove bearing and seal from axle. To reassemble, you'll need a pressing ring will press on the inner race only of the bearing. First, put the retainer back onto the axle, then slide the seal onto the axle, cavity side to the inboard end of axle, then slide bearing onto axle, then press bushing. Support press bushing on press arbor plates, axle into arbor flange end up, and press axle flange until bearing is seated. Then slide new retainer ring onto axle, and press that on similar to bearing. Pack the new bearing with fresh grease, then install 4 studs into retainer plate, and reinstall assy into axle tube.

Pull the axle shafts out both sides, pull the front diff cover... Pull the bolts that hold the carrier bearings, remove the carrier.... Take the front driveshaft out then take the front pinion nut off the front yoke. Tap the yoke off the shaft tap the pinion out of the diff case.. The outer bearing is pressed on the shaft take to reputale shop.. Good luck Pull the axle shafts out both sides, pull the front diff cover... Take the wheels off, then remove the caliper, remove the caliper bracket, 18mm with breaker bar, then the rotor, remove cotter pin, metal castle nut, flex washer, nut 36 mm then washer, from behind 3 bolts 13mm star once 3 bolts are removed, use a brass hammer or rubber mallet and hit from behind stud while holding axle

Its pretty easy.

1. Jack up car, remove front wheel
2. Take all the break caliper
3. Remove the other break parts that holds the rotor on
4. Take off the rotor exposing the hub
5. You'll need a 36mm socket to remove the hub
6. There is a retaining pin in the hub bolt - dont forget to replace
   
7. You may need to put the tire on and drop it back down to losen the hub bolt
8. There are 4 bolts (1/2 12 point) that holds the hub onto the axle
9. Pop off that bad boy and throw a new on one (I got my hubs for 69 bucks each online - NAPA wanted $150.00 and the dealer wanted 1800 for the whole job.)

When you put the hub bolt back on it needs to be tightened with a torque wrench to 120lbs. This is super important!

This requires a press and special tools. It can also depend on what rear end you have. Commonly remove wheel, remove caliper and rotor or for drum brakes the drum. You will find 4 to 6 nuts holding the bearing retainer and backing plate on. Remove and axle and wheel bearing assembly should pull out. The centre ring or cone of the bearing should be firmly attached to the axle. Remove the retaining clip. Some are on with a pressed ring only. If it is not inspect the axle for wear or damage. Install the new bearing and seal, don't forget the retainer plate goes on first! Make dang sure everything is correct and secure or the axle will come lose going down the road.
