If broke you probably will need to use a screw driver to break it open and replace. I don't know any other way in without breaking the lock.
It is part of the latch.
Its the lock/latch mechanism
Actually it should only pop the hood a little bit, the interior latch release is an anti theft device designed to keep people out of your engine compartment. The second latch release inside the grille is meant to completely open the hood, the double latch system also saves you from having the hood hit the windshield if the latch fails while driving, or you forget to latch it completely.
First you take the door panel off. Just pull it off carefully so you don't destroy the little plastic push pins that hold it on. Unplug the remote mirror control. Then you remove the inside door handle by removing the two screws and the bar/lever. Unplug the wire connected to the latch body. It breaks pretty easily, but don't worry about it because the new latch will have a new connection on it. Remove the 3 screws on the end of the door holding the latch in place. You don't have to remove the electronic door lock mechanism. There is a lever running from the latch to the keyhole that has a snap holding it. Unsnap it a push lever aside. Unscrew the top of the door lock and try to work the bar down to where you can get it out the inside of the door. Work the latch around until you get all the levers off or disconnected from their source. Reverse it to put it back in.
go between the rear bumper and the latch and loosen the two bolts and move it foreward two therear and try to ajust back and forth until you get the tension that you want.
Remove the three Philips screws along the top and the two on the bottom corners and remove the entire glove box. You can then work on the latch from the back of the latch and easily open the glove compartment by gently prying off the corners of the glove box from the locking pins.
There is a latch that you have to pull. If it's locked and you don't have the key you'll have to get someone to break or pick the lock
HI, The hood release is normally found in the glove compartment. On my '97 it's on the left top when I open the glove compartment door. Yours might be a bit different, but typically it's there. Good luck. Steve H.

To remove the glove compartment box in order to access the radio fuse, you will typically need to follow these steps: Open the glove compartment by pulling the handle or latch located on the front of the compartment. Look for any screws or fasteners that are holding the glove compartment box in place. These may be located on the inside of the compartment, on the sides, or on the back. If you see any screws or fasteners, use a screwdriver or other appropriate tool to remove them. Once all of the screws or fasteners have been removed, gently pull the glove compartment box out of the compartment. It may be held in place by clips or other fasteners, so you may need to gently wiggle it to loosen it. Once the glove compartment box is out of the compartment, you should be able to see the radio fuse and any other electrical components that may be located behind it. It's important to be careful when removing the glove compartment box and to make sure that you are using the appropriate tools for the job. If you are not comfortable with this task, or if you are unsure about how to proceed, it may be best to seek the assistance of a professional mechanic or technician.
One under the hood by the hood latch, one in the glove compartment, and occasionally one by the parking brake pedal for conversions.
The 1979 Chevy Silverado glove box latch is held in place with two retaining screws. Remove the retaining screws and the glove box latch will come off.
It is behind the glove box. My son replaced it, very easy. Just be careful of the glove box latch, plastic. He broke that in his haste and it cost @$25. Found on internet many broke theirs.
in the glove box
Not all 66 Mustangs had a locking glove box; some came with a standard glove box latch and others with the locking latch. C5ZZ-6506072-B : 65 Glove Box Latch Pony (66 All) C5ZZ-6506072-BL : 65 Glove Box Lock Pony (66 All) Source : http://www.aapd.net
