The 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee glovebox is secured with a retaining screws. There are four retaining screws on the top and for retaining screws on the bottom of the glovebox. Remove the retaining screws to remove the glovebox.
Remove the two screws from the dash side that are holding the hinge underneath the glove box. They made the glove box all one piece so the whole unit must come out for it to be serviced.

To lower the glove box. There are two black plastic stop tabs sticking up past the back wall of the glove box, these stop tabs hit against rubber stops and keep the glove box from falling open. Fold these rubber pieces to the side to let the black stop tabs go by. (They are attached to the dash only on one side so as to act as a hinge point) The rubber stop on the left, is about an inch to the left of the glove box light switch. The right rubber stop is about eight inches to the right of the light switch. Remove the dampener arm on the right side of the glove box by sliding the end, up and out of a key slot type of hole. The glove box should be hanging down at this point.
Remove you glove box. It should be behind it.
Right behind the glove box. Remove the three screws at bottom of glove box. Once it is off you will see it on the blower casing. Remove shroud from below with an 8mm socket. Same socket will remove resistor. Total work time ~10-20 minutes.
It's on the bottom of the transfer case. It's a large white/yellowed sensor with a 2 wire connector.

Open the glove box. Remove all contents from glove box. Now, slightly close it, and with your right hand, pull the right side hinge side away from the dash. The glove box should flop completely open now, exposing the cab filter cover. Remove and replace. Simply closing the glove box will reset the hinge.
