The previous answer listed here was complete nonsense.

The Beatles had nothing to do with the Paul is Dead phenomena - it was started by a DJ in Michigan named Russ Gibbs and was fueled by obsessive fans who read into things and "found" clues based on nothing more than the human ability to turn anything into patterns or connections.

The "turn me on dead man" that can "be heard" when 'Revolution 9' is played backwards really doesn't say that at all, but if that's what you're listening for, it will sound close enough - again, the brain is filling in information to create a pattern that it recognizes.

What people think they heard as "I buried Paul" at the end of 'Strawberry Fields Forever' is John saying "cranberry sauce". This is borne out not only by countless interviews John gave over the years, but also by bootlegs of SFF that contain less overdubs and allow you to hear what John is saying clearly.
