On 350 rancher it located in the back I took the engine off I was told it could be done with out removing it but it wasn't that hard pulling the engine. you have pull the top end off so you can pull the cam to change chain. any questions email me I just did mine Bob pooleb@ns.sympatico.ca
First, there is no V6, but there is an I6, and the valves are non-adjustable. If you are hearing a ticking sounds, check for an exhaust leak, arcing plug, bomb, etc.
Examples of a steady beat include the ticking of a clock, the rhythm of a metronome, or the consistent thumping of a bass drum in music. In everyday life, the pulse of a person's heartbeat or the rhythm of footsteps while walking can also illustrate a steady beat. These examples maintain a regular tempo, providing a foundation for timing in both music and movement.
The engine computer is in charge of timing.
possible loose timing belt hitting housing
The ticking could possibly be from a timing key going out. Having mine replaced presently.
ticking sound in engine is usually not caused by a timing belt ticking is usually caused by worn cam shaft or clifters most cars now have hydraulic lifters. if oil is low it will cause ticking. if a lifter is worn it will cause ticking these should have been ckecked for wear when replacing timing belt
The most likely cause of a ticking sound in a motor is a bad timing belt. A valve out of time can also cause a ticking sound.
Ticking on acceleration is usually the ignition timing, get it tuned..
Could be timing belt tensioner.
how do i check the timing on my 02 honda 350 atv
If it sounds like rocks in a can, or like a Diesel engine, you might be experiencing detonation, which is really bad. It is caused by poor gas and/or ignition timing too advanced. Left unfixed, it will melt holes in your pistons. To fix, get higher-octane fuel and/or retard timing
If your vehicle has a timing belt and not a chain, you need to replace it immediately. My distributor made the same ticking noise and it turned out to be the timing belt had a frayed piece on it and this piece was the source of the noise. Before I could figure it out, the belt broke and left me stranded on the roadside.
A ticking sound and smoke under the hood can be caused by several issues, primarily related to the engine. Common culprits include a failing valve lifter, loose components, or a worn timing belt, which can create a ticking noise. Smoke may result from overheating, oil leaks, or coolant leaks, leading to burning fluids. It's crucial to address these symptoms promptly, as they can indicate serious engine problems.
To set the timing on a 2006 Honda Rancher 400, first ensure the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke by aligning the timing marks on the flywheel with the mark on the engine case. Remove the timing inspection cover to access the timing marks. Adjust the position of the camshaft if necessary to align the marks accurately, ensuring the timing chain is properly tensioned. Reassemble the cover and check the timing by starting the engine to ensure it runs smoothly.
saabs use timingchains and not timing belts and if you find that when ticking over its noisey then you might only need to replace the tensioners
