Why did the Cherokees conform to European civilization?

The Cherokees realized that if they did not adapt to European modes of thinking and addressing problems, they would be unable to protect their culture. One of the main reasons that the Cherokee survived at all (when most Native American Tribes have gone extinct) is that they were able to write newspapers and constitutions, build houses, and negotiate proper treaties with Whites.

In what ways did the cherokees adopt white culture?

Because Cherokees were forced to learn the ways of the "whites" and they learned how to read, write, and speak english. They also were forced to dress like them! They put makeup on the indians so they were white and not dark colored. The only way they adapted and were not forced into american culture was that the indians made their own constitution and their own capital copyrighting it from the americans.

Did the Cherokees come from the North?
