It only means that the station is licensed to transmit from a point in the USA.
Another one is the letter ' W '.
When the nations began to get together and agree on standards and practices for
radio communication, one of the things they did was to assign blocks of call letters
among the countries. For example, Mexico got 'X', Canada got 'C' for broadcast and
'VE' for other services, and the US got 'K' and 'W' for broadcast and 'N' and 'A' for
other services. (Nowadays, the same organization are the people deciding on how
digital cellular, WiFi, 3G, 4G, and LTE work.)
In general in the US, all the 'K's are west of the Mississippi and all the 'W's are east of it,
but there are exceptions.
It doesn't have any special meaning. Not all call letters are requested (station program managers sometimes ask for certain call letters which are the initials of the owner, or the slogan of the company that operates the station). Many stations just take the call letters they are given, and those call letters don't stand for anything in particular, but are simply assigned by the Federal Communications Commission. Often, a station will take the assigned call letters and then create a slogan -- for example, in the 1970s, WBLS ran ads that featured stylish models and the ad said the station was "World's Best Looking Sound."

KDKA are the call letters of this station as received from the government. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters-and historically as a call signal-or abbreviated as a call) is a unique designation for a transmitting station. In North America they are used as names for broadcasting stations. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity.'On October 16, the Westinghouse Company applied to the United States Department of Commerce for a license to begin a regular broadcasting service. By telephone a few days later Westinghouse received permission to use the amateur call letters 8ZZ in case the formal and written license was not received by November 2. However, on October 27, formal notification arrived, and the station received the call letters KDKA (these were the same as those used in commercial shore stations). The station was authorized to use 360 meters, giving them a clear channel away from amateur use.'

It would be either a prefix or a suffix. Prefix means the letters before, and suffix means the letters after the word.

Some letters such as e is a number, and i stands for imaginary number. But most letters are variables. x is a common variable. A variable is basically a number that you don't know so you just call it x.
