It depends on type of bass. A small mouth... 2-3lbs.12" or longer
large mouth...4-6lbs.18"or longer. rock bass are smaller 8"to 10"would be big. These are nice size, but will get much bigger. Striped & sea bass I'm not real sure. Hope you catch & release. Take a picture with a tape measure. Good luck on the water.

Well, a bass which has served a good friend of mine very well has been the Dean Z Vintage bass.
A good quality bass is at minimum 300$, now not to say a bass under that is bad, bass guitars depend on what genre you play. Example, Fender is a good punk rock bass, but I have a classic Fender P-Bass at 210$. it is an amazing punk bass for the price. So I personally wouldn't relate a bass to money and quality, some bass guitars are good for some kinds of music, and some are not. Find out what genre you like, and buy a recommended bass for that genre.

if you are a beginner on the bass a good bass would be a squier affinity series jazz bass or precision bass. the jazz bass has a slimmer neck than the p bass but the p bass is a better bass for crunchy tone . i got the pbass.
