How about a Music Man Steve Morse model? Or an Ibanez Joe Satriani model? Lots of different sounds can be achieved with these two due to the pickup combinations and coil splitting options. Not too expensive either. Satch's even has a Floyd Rose tremolo. Really though, the sound is in your hands so any guitar can be versatile. Even a basic Telecaster. Or a Squier Strat with a humbucker in the bridge. There are only two basic types of pickups available for a guitar anyway. Single or Humbucking. This is where the biggest change in tone will come from. Everything else is subtle. Lots of Guitars feel different too. So make sure you pick one that is comfortable too. Fender = longer scale - a little tighter on the strings than Gibson. PRS falls in between. Some people like the guitar to push back a little. If you don't, just don't buy a Strat or Tele. Try a Gibson, Ibanez, Hamer, Jackson or PRS. What do you consider versatile for your style? What I mean is, what different sounds do you need for your style and personality to come through? Now get to work practicing! Even the most expensive PRS won't make you a better player. Don't fall into the trap! Just play - a lot.
I would recommend getting either a set of EMG or Seymour Duncan pick-ups. Most people like to run their mouths about EMG's not getting a good clean tone, which comes back to the fact that you would probably need a mahogany body or something like it for the best clean tone. I've played on the ESP EC-ii VB, which has a EMG 81 bridge pick-up, and the neck is and EMG 60 (for jazz an 89 might work better), and in my opinion the clean tones sounds great! Seymour Duncans sound really good as well but if your into screamo most aren't rediculously high out pick-ups. As far as versatility goes I would recommend that if you got Duncans to get a SH-1 and SH-4 (JB and '59). You might would try putting a single coil for a middle pick-up.
Another thing is that if you get single coils you can't get a very good distorted tone without a really expensive amp. So I would look for a guitar with a coil tap system, which will allow you to turn over to a lighter sounder, more like Hendrix, or Eric Johnson.
Elixer strings are long lasting and sound great with anything I've ever played.
If you want to dial in really specific tones using both pick-ups it may be best that your guitar has 2 tone, and 2 volume knobs.
You lose sustain whenever you get a tremelo bridge over a TOM. Also you're guitar will be really hard to keep in tune with the tremelo, and new strings take forever to put on.
A couple of guitars you may consider.- Gibson USA Les Paul Chad Kroeger Blackwater-$4,099. (Ouch!)- Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR-$1,299 (has coil tap)
- Fender Telecaster (don't know much about 'em but I've herd they're versatile)
- PRS guitars I've never played on but their supposed to be versatile.
- ESP EC-ii Distressed-I'm going to guess about $1500.
The best actives are the EMG- 80's for the bridge and either 60 or 89 for the bridge, but the best passives are EMG Hz-h4's
no the electric guitar is because with a electric guitar and a good amp you can play everything from clean jazz to brutal death metal. Answer: The electronic sampling synthesizer keyboard is the most versatile instrument, because it can make the sounds of any other instrument. Add a computer and a MIDI interface, and the keyboard can make all of the sounds in an entire piece except the vocals.
A signed Fender Standard Series Stratocaster became the world's most expensive guitar, fetching a massive $2.8 million at auction in Doha, Qatar. Auctioned to aid victims of the 2004 tsunami disaster, the guitar broke the previous record held by Eric Clapton's $959,500.00 black strat. Aly and Aj, apart from other various instruments do play guitar. They know how to play acoustic and electric guitar. Guitar is the most important instrument they use in their music.
Most likely the Strat, considering that you are mostly playing clean. It has a much brighter tone that can help cut through the mix of a band. This is also very dependent on the pickups, however.
To me its about how they feel and how they sound ! Some bands just play a guitar cause they get payed to . so kids see them playing them and they sell allot of them ! right . marketing . Gibson Fender Ibanez Those are the big ones . I play a Fender strat and its wonderful . and I also Play a Ibanez Jem Steve vai signature and its also a sick looking guitar but you can also throw it downa flight of stares and it will still be in tune . Oh yeah and all those big named guitar makers have other series of guitars but with a diff brand name - Gibson=Epiphone Fender = Squire

This is a much debated issue among guitarists. It really comes down to personal playing style as to what sort of guitar suits a player best, but as beginners have little or no experience the best choice for them would have to be something highly versatile. The most versatile and relatively low price guitars are generally Vintages and copies of the famous Fender Stratocaster. Strat copies are available at almost every music shop around the world, and at the low end of price tend to vary little. Better still are the statocasters made by Squier, a sub-company of Fender itself which are manufactured in Korea. Squiers are the best strat copies around and come in two styles: the Standard Series and the cheaper and more common Affinity Series. The Standard can usually be found at between £170 - £210, while the Affinity will usually cost between £140 - &160. Both of these guitars are durable and versatile, being able to handle virtually any kind of music, and are the best choice for most beginners.
The price range for Stratocaster necks can really vary depending on the type of guitar. Most of the prices however range from around $40 upwards to around $150.

there are many guitars used by green day. the most popular ones are Gibson Les Paul Jr's and the lead singers guitar, blue, which is a Fernandez strat that, over the years, has accumulated objects, ranging from stickers to duct tape...
Not without some serious modifications. The most common use of a strat pickup in a telecaster is to add a strat pickup in the middle position. In order to do this, one must route the guitar's body and pickguard to accommodate the pickup. This configuration often requires a 5 way pickups selector switch, which means replacing the stock 3 way switch of a telecaster. Unfortunately strat pickups cannot replace tele pickups without routing. The telecaster neck has different dimensions than a strat pickup, and the bridge pickup has a special mounting.
