There are four families in an orchestra. The strings (violins, violas, cellos and string basses) make up the core of the group. For color the wind families are added: Woodwinds (flute, oboe, Clarinet, bassoon), Brass (Trumpet, french horn, Trombone and tuba) and the percussion instruments. As an honorary mention, the French Horns are also considered co-members of the woodwind section. Chorus, piano and organ are occasional additions to the orchestral family for certain works.
