back in the 30s Guitars weren't as loud as say trumpets , trombones , drums or any other jazz or swing oriented instruments and I guess one thing led to another and he figured a way to make guitars louder.
he hired a man named George Beauchamp who was born in Texas and he designed the first Electric Guitar nicknamed the frying pan because of its shape. George died in 1941 of a heart attack before the guitar sales sky rocketed. He holds the patent for electric guitars amongst other things.
Adolph Richenbacher bought the patent to produce the guitar after George Beauchamp invented it in 1931. Adolph joined another company in 1932, began production and renamed the company to Rickenbacker in 1934.
He didn't. Adolph Rickenbacker financed the guitar; he did not invent it. George Beauchamp invented the electric lap steel guitar, the "Frying Pan", as a way for a Hawaiian guitar to be heard in a large venue.
With an invention his employee George Beauchamp made called the single coil guitar pickup which allows electricity to pass through the guitar and send back to the amplifier the sounds that it picks up on. A pickup is sort of like an ear to the guitar.
Adolph Rickenbacker DID NOT invent the guitar. The earliest known six stringed guitar was created in 1779 by Gaetano Vinaccia.

Paul Tutmarc invented the electrically amplified bass in 1930 and bass fiddle in 1935. He was mainly the spokesman for his Audiovox company and most of the glory went to the actual inventor of the electric guitar, George Beauchamp in 1931, later selling the patent to Adolph Richenbacher who developed the first electric guitar (Rickenbacker) in 1932.
Les Paul invented the electric gutiar's SOLID BODY. Adolph Rickenbacker is the inventer of the first modern amplifiable electric guitar.
There is no real 'father' of the guitar. Although, the person responsible for the modern classical guitar is Francisco Tarrega. Depending on the guitar, you can conclude who is the father of that guitar. For example: Les paul is the 'father' of Les Paul guitars...and son on.
