I had a similar problem , try cleaning out your stepper motor (idle control valve) Located on the side of your throttle body , there is a suitable spray you can buy from the auto shops that will clean it
Have the PCM aka computer checked. I've had this issue before and had to replace the PCM. Cost about @100 bucks at a salvage yard online.
How high does it idle in park? It could be a few things depending on the amount of idle. It could be a vacume line, it could be your idle screw. If you will post or email me at mudislife2@yahoo.com the amount that it idles at than i can help you more from there.
the planetary gears are locking up in the tranny. your trans case could be getting hot ,over heating the tranny or your tranny could need flushing. this is serious i wouldn't drive until it is fixed if you like your jeep and don't want to spend alot of money.
take it to a mechanic for a diagnostic
Most likely cause is a faulty coolant temp gauge located on top of the front of the water pump, toward the front of the engine, or the water pump is bad. The fan is attached to the water pump and the drive belt rides on the water pump pulley. The reason the engine returns to normal idle when moving is that air is circulating the engine, and the coolant, and the sensor detects that the engine operating range has been reached. to fix, drain the coolant, remove the temp sensor, replace, and refill the radiator. If thsi does not solve the problem, its the water pump. Tim
ours was making a teerrible knocking noise like it was low on oil. also the check engine light was stuck on. had a shop replace some gaskets (upper manifold maybe?) and noise is gone.
a/c blows warm air when idles cold when running
Perhaps you have a leak in your transmission. Check the transmission fluid while the car is running. DO NOT check any other fluids while the engine is running.
I have python tips and it idles off beat and sometimes dies.
Carb.? Float sticking? Rebuild or replace
Check fuel pressure when the car idles.
Check the air filter, it's probably clogged.
possibly its the anti theft system most likely on a GM
Idle may have to be relearned. Did it recently go dead or did you change battery?
The throttle plate in the throttle body may be stuck and needs to be freed up and/or lubricated
Not sure what you mean by not running right. Is it stalling, skipping, hesitating, idles to fast, idles to slow, doesn't idle at all, backfiring, hard starting, spark knock/ping, running rich, running lean, blowing black smoke, blowing blue smoke, blowing white smoke, etc? Need more info.
The coil might be bad ,,like it was in mine
Blue smoke is oil burning, White is steam(water), Black smoke is unburnt fuel.
