A 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not go into reverse if the transmission is defective or the shift linkage is not aligned properly. A local transmission shop or dealership can thoroughly diagnose and repair the issue.
If your Jeep wont reverse than you have something wrong with your transmission. To get this fixed it can cost anywhere from $200- $1000 dollars.
There is a reserve, but it's only about 2 gallons or so.
If your Cherokee isn't functioning right in reverse then you may have a bad transmission. You should contact a professional about having it rebuilt.
It only allows starting in park and neutral, and runs the reverse lights.
I dont describe things well but, your transfer case is underneath the driverside of your jeep to the left of transmission if you were facing the steering wheel from the driver sear. It looks like an extension or addition to the transmission. While underneath the jeep follow your front driveshaft back, what it connects to will be your transfer case.
Check the linkage between the shifter and the transfer case. If its ok, go in reverse for about half a block and then try to engage it. If that doesn't work, maybe you have a vacuum leak somewhere.
The obvious answer would be that there would be a leak somewhere...
broken band in tranny. or blown clutches.
The reverse wire on the side of trans mite have came off or you may have afalty reverse switch on trans or a bad ground from bolbes.
That is almost always an indication of a failed transmission. Check the fluid for a burnt smell.
reverse kills engine
Sometimes there is a safety button or switch that must be held or pushed to allow this to go into reverse.
Most likely.
passengers side of rear housing of transmission
hmmmm. sounds like u need to have the clutch looked at.
I had a similar problem where it would shift into reverse or drive but not go immediately. Or sometimes it would drop out of gear and you'd have to rev up to get it to fall back into gear. i replaced the transmission filter and it fixed the problem.
check the reverse light switch and all connections
the reverse switch in the transmission
Yes it will fit. 87 to 96 will interchange unless you change from power to manual or the reverse
