They grow on dead or decayed plant matter and suck up their nutrients with little straw-like filaments called mycelialocated in their stalk. The straws lead to the cap, where they store their energy.

After they suck up all the nutrients, they go back into the soil and spawn on another dead plant. It does this about twice every week to keep from not running out of energy.

They grow in parts of Central America, Europe, and Asia. While honey mushrooms are edible and prized by chefs, there are VERY poisonous lookalike fungi, so be careful when identifying them. The mimics have been the known cause of death for 600,000 people worldwide in 2008.
