Where are black holes from?

They say that a black hole is a collapsed star.Itcomes from a dead star Bigger than our sun. -- at least twice the size of our own sun -- that, once caved in on itself, has a gravity force so strong that in order to escape its orbit, any vehicle would need to attain an escape velocity greater than the speed of light. And, since light itself thus cannot escape the pull of the "singularity" at the center, it cannot leave the area of gravity inside the event horizon, the boundary outside the singularity. That's why it's called a black hole.

Some scientists have postulated the idea of a "naked singularity," without an event horizon, but in order for this to be possible, all the known laws of this space-time continuum would have to be repealed.

Stephen Hawking and others have discussed such things as "parallel universes," which are almost beyond the capacity for human understanding. It's been said that some quantum mechanicists believe that all "information" taken into a black hole ends up in a parallel universe without any black holes. That one is a little hard to follow. (Look up "string theory" on the internet and you'll find lots of sites on this kind of thing.)

The general wisdom is that anyone who could see a singularity would be destined to fall into it, as nothing that crosses the event horizon outside it can possibly escape the gravitational pull of the singularity thus revealed. But some scientists are trying to disprove that. It boils down to whether it will ever be possible for matter to travel faster than light.
