The first to be credited with this was Nicolas Copernicus, 1473-1543.
Galileo is sometimes credited with the origin of this but was actually a supporter of Copernicus' work.
Copernicus was correct in believing in the heliocentric model of the Solar System, which said the planets rotated round the sun. Ptolemy accepted the traditional geocentric view which had the Earth at the centre of the Solar System.
Aristarchus of Samos
Galileo was imprisoned for promoting the heliocentric model of the solar system, which challenged the geocentric beliefs of the Catholic Church. He was found guilty of heresy by the Inquisition for supporting Copernican theory.
Some Catholic ethologists saw them as heresy because they supported the Copernicus' discovery that the earth rotated around the sun. Catholic theology had endorsed the view of Ptolemy (an ancient Greek astronomer) that the sun rotated around the earth. The new discoveries clashed with the Catholic doctrine of the time. Galileo was lucky because the pope was not bother about these issue. This meant that his inquisition led to his house arrest.
Eclipse of the sun
Gailieo changed the western civilization , by saying that the sun was the center of the Universe and the earth rotated round the sun , and not the sun around the earth. Even when he was told that he could face death for this silly belief and hebetter change his view, Gailieo said all the same earth does rotate around the sun.
Earth revolves around the sun. 'Nuff Said.
The teacher said that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
Seasons will not change Anyways, you can't challenge nature
Nicolas Copernicus (1473-1543) is said to be the founder of modern astronomy He is famous for his theory which asserted that the earth rotated on its axis once daily and traveled around the sun once yearly:
Copernicus was correct in believing in the heliocentric model of the Solar System, which said the planets rotated round the sun. Ptolemy accepted the traditional geocentric view which had the Earth at the centre of the Solar System.
Nicolas Copernicus
Aristarchus of Samos
Galileo Galilei.
Earth, like all the other 7 planets, revolves around the sun. Hence, earth is said to be a part of the "Solar" system.
Because the side of the Earth which you are on has rotated so that it is facing away from the Sun (into space)
He first suggested that the Earth (and the other planets that were then known) rotated around the Sun instead of the other way around.
