The encyclopedia on natural history that discusses meteorology, geography, botany, zoology, and astronomy was written by the Roman philosopher and naturalist Pliny the Elder. His work, titled "Natural History" (Naturalis Historia), encompasses a vast range of topics and is considered one of the largest single works to have survived from the Roman Empire. A lecturer in Athens, Aristotle studied and discussed the systematic understanding of logic, physics, astronomy, meteorology, zoology, metaphysics, theology, psychology, politics, economics, ethics, rhetoric, and poetics. While Aristotle's contributions in each subject were considerable for the time, his major contribution was to the overall study and teaching of such subjects in a systematic way, many of which had never been considered before. Two areas which he advanced were physics and astronomy. He made very interesting discussion of the topics of matter, change, movement, space, position, and time as well as studying comets.
