It can mean, "leave" however, in the context I think you're thinking of, it means nothing. It's just a random word added to the end of a sentence, no?

According to Pimsleur's Japanese course, Level 2, Unit 11, demasu means "leave".

In course Level 3, Unit 15, demasu can also mean "attend" (such as attend a meeting). Demasen = not attend, deraremasu = can attend, deraremasen = cannot attend.
