Construction work is estimated at design stage (before work starts). This estimation is done by using tender drawings (not detailed, basic). Once work starts construction drawings are issued. These drawings show the full specifications of items of work/how to build the item (plans, sections, details). The quantity surveyor will then re-measure the work which is being undertaken, with what was estimated at design stage (tender drawings against construction drawings). This will result in more or less of an item required, which will result in extra costs or a cost saving.
