An author of Science Fiction books. Howard Phillips (H.P.) Lovecraft was born in Rhode Island in 1890 and died in 1937.

His writing was mainly published in pulp magazines (such as 'Weird Tales' and 'Tales of the Macabre') and was little known in his lifetime. His reputation has grown since his death, he has become a cult figure and many of today's Horror writer's cite him as an influence. His writing is described as "cosmic horror" and often involved 'Old Ones', alien and supernatural beings that dwelt outside of time and space but were always trying to re-assert their evil and horrific influence on the world. One of these Old Ones was Cthulu and H.P. is probably best known for his 'Cthulu Mythos', the fictional world he created in stories such as 'Call of Cthulu'. Other of his works include: 'The Thing on the Doorstep', 'The Rats in the Walls' and 'The Lurker on the Threshold'.
