What is communism and why was us afraid of it spreading to other countries?

The Americans hate communism, as capitalism is the direct opposite of communism, and America is based on "the American dream" which is basically the forwarded of ones own life and career though industry, and consumerism. it is a country based on looking after the individual, rather than the community as a whole.

This being said communism is not without its faults, as while communism is based on a good solid foundation of everyone being equal, it is open to abuse as is the nature of humans. so communism would in a perfect world would be a perfect solution. however this is not a perfect world.

Americans greatest fear is to be equal, as it does not fit in with the American psyche of having the biggest and best of everything. And also have a fear of anything which is not "the norm," which I can see from a British point of view.

Thats a nice way of putting it mate! Basically they had plenty of money and didnt want a fair sociwety across the world which was what communsim was about so being fat and greedy they decided to destroy communism and keep their money most of which was proablally stolen.

Communism is a theory. a theory of a system in which there are no classes. To understand communism you have to understand the present system, capitalism. In capitalism the production is controlled by a few more powerful men, who are called capitalists. This has led to imperialism, which in our days explains wars and extreme poverty. Communism is the other choice. On communism, people will be all equal, and will have the possibility to gain almost everything another man does. And by almost i mean that you won't be able to have the same children with everybody obviously :) . But it is imperative that you note the word "possibility". They will be able to have, not be forced to. In addition to that, on communism there will be no workers. Everything will be automatized by machines controlled by human kind.

Now that I have explained communism to you, i have to correct you. You made a mistake that is important. Us government was not afraid of communism spreading, rather than socialism. Socialism is the leading system, taking capitalism to communism. On socialism everything belongs to the state, and workers have no bosses. You lend everything from the state, from the house you live in to the tools of your work. BUT everything is extremely cheap and the essentials (like your house or the food and internet connection) are completely free. Why? Because there is no profit coming of them. Capitalism runs from profit, and on Socialism there is no need to have any.

Now, for the last part. Why were US afraid of socialism spreading. The answer is short and simple. Because US government is corrupted. And by that i mean that the parties running it are mainly capitalist parties. They are "friends" with the capitalists. And capitalists are trying by any means to stop workers being freed from their exploitation. This explains main things, like the laborer shooting in South Africa, the civil war of Greece and the many wars with North Korea and early Soviet Union.
