Can Muslims marry who they want?

In practice, however, both Jews and Christians are forbidden to marry outside their own faith. A truly devout Jewish or Christian woman would never agree to marry a Muslim man. If she did agree, she would not be "devout", and therefore he would not be allowed to marry her.

Therefore, in real-world conditions, a Muslim man can only marry a Muslim woman.

Muslim women are only allowed to marry Muslim men. This is to keep the Muslim women emotionally, spiritually and physically protected.

ex. a non-Muslim is ok with drinking (hard drinks), he might physically or verbally harm the Muslim woman. Muslim women who follow their faith and beliefs will not want to marry a non-Muslim, unless he converts, because if she marries a non-Muslim he will do something unislamic and it will not be ok with her.

i have a very different take on that. i am dating a christian man for time now and i searched a lot and here is my conclusion. no she doesnt!!!!

in surat in baqara aya 221 which is in chapter 2 verse 221 the quoran just said that they cannot marry moshriken. moshriken in Arabic means a person who prays to multiple gods. although some do believe that chriastians are so because some pray to Jesus or god or mariam or a saint whatever and whoever the quoran still called them ahl al ketab i don't reallt know how to say it in English but they are not called polthetic. judism and Christianity are religions from god and they are not moshrikin. so yeah thanks.

Muslims are allowed to marry Christian and Jew women too because they have a book of revelation just like Muslims.

Islam respects previous revelations such as the Torah and The Bible and previous ones. As such, a Muslim husband will allow a his Christian or Jew to practice her religion freely without any problem. Yes we prefer that she convert to Islam, better for her as she will become a believer as should be according to the old scripture, but she will not be obliged to do so. Children will of course follow their father in his religion and eventually become Muslims. In fact all children, regardless of their parents faith, they are all born Muslims "by Fitra" meaning born on the oath taken from them before the creation of this universe by Allah the almighty.

NOW! if a Muslim woman is married to a non-Muslim, then she will not be allowed to practice her religion freely since Christians and Jews and other faiths hate Islam and do not acknowledge prophet Mohamme pace be upon him as messenger of God. A man is always stroner than the women and affects her man than she does to him.

Also, the children will diffenately follow or made to follow their father's religion and in this case we lose them to hell which are ordered to save people from it.

Answer 3It is to emphasized that per Islam teachings and rules, it is not allowed for a Muslim girl to get married to a non-Muslim boy (Jewish, Christian, Hindus, ...etc). She should get married only to a Muslim boy. The reason behind that is the following:

In Islam practice, the husband prime responsibility is to cover the family expenses even if his wife works and even if she is earning more money than the husband. In addition, Muslims have faith in the holy books (including Torah and Bible), and in both religions of Judaism and Christianity, and all prophets (including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus) while Jews and Christians do not have faith in Islam, in Quran, and in prophet Mohamed.

So, it is logic if husband is Muslim to accept for his Christian or Jewish wife to practice her ritual worships, social activities, and clothing according to her Christian or Jewish religion. However, if the husband is Christian or Jewish he may not accept his Muslim wife to practice her ritual worships, social activities, and clothing according to her Islam religion.

That is why a Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish girl/woman while a Muslim girl can not marry a Christian or Jewish man and should get married only to a Muslim man.

Some others have the view point that any person of any faith can marry anyone they want and that love conquers all, even religion. However, this is true only if you are not committed to a religion with God or not believing in God at all. If you are committed with God through any religion, what so ever, you have to fulfill this commitment. This is in analogy to one committed with an employer through a work contract (despite the difference between commitment in contract with God, the Creator, and commitment in contract with an employer, creature). Does falling in love with someone entitle you not to go for work or not to fulfill your work commitment? The same answer applies to your commitment with God when you fall in love and thinking of marriage. On the other hand, of course you have full right and full choice to select either to fulfill religion commitment or to abandon the religion you committed to and throw it behind. However, choice is responsibility. You should be aware that your choice defines the consequences that you get in front of God on the Resurrection Day. Either one goes to God Paradise or one be Pushed in Hell fire.

Muslim Man and Muslim woman [ If they are not Wife and Husband ] are forbidden to be ALONE with each other. (specially in a Closed place).

The Muslim if he want to Date a Girl, He should go to her Family and Engage her Then they Can spend time with each other and Go out with each other.

And then get married if they Found themselves good for each other.

Everything should be done under the Eye of her Family and his Family.
