How did Islam change life in the middle east and north Africa when it was first introduced to the region?
It vastly improved the rights and status of women, the oppressed, poor, orphans, animals, and all of mankind. A major change was the rights of women though, Islam gave laws that women have the right to own, inherit and dispose of their own property as they saw fit, reject forced marriages, obtain an education and initiate divorce. This only happened in the west over the last two hundred years, whereas in the Middle East and Africa these laws were enforced over 1400 years ago.
