Genesis chapter 25:
7 The years of Abraham's life were 175 years. 8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, old and satisfied, and was gathered to his people. 9 His sons Isaac and Ishʹma·el buried him in the cave of Mach·peʹlah in the field of Eʹphron the son of Zoʹhar the Hitʹtite that is in front of Mamʹre,
10 the field that Abraham had purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, with his wife Sarah"
Gen 16:16 "Aʹbram was 86 years old when Haʹgar bore Ishʹma·el to him."
175-86= Ishmael was 89 years old when his father died.
(Acts 24:15;Ps 37:29)
Some biblical scholars have dated the life of Abraham as being from 1975-1800 BC or 2008-2183 Anno Mundus (year of the world). These same scholars date the births of Jacob and Esau to 1815 BC or 2168 AM. This would then mean both boys were about 15 years old when the great Patriarch died.
Ishmael was not the promised son from God. Ishmael came about because Sarah gave Abraham Hagar to produce a son thinking that they would help God out with His promise of a son. A big mistake. Abraham was 86 years old when Ishmael was born.
According to the Old Testament text, Abraham's first son was Ishmael.
Genesis 25:8-10 - Then Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, the field which Abraham purchased from the sons of Heth. There Abraham was buried, and Sarah his wife. [NKJV]
Abraham was exceedingly happy when Ishmael was born and wished that Ishmael would be the child of promise, showing little faith in God's abilities. But God corrected Abraham and told him that his son Isaac will fill that role. He had other plans for Ishmael:
Abraham
Ishmael definitely is from the bible. It means, God hears. Ishmael was the son of Abraham that Hagar, his wife's servant, bore for him. When Abraham and his wife, Sarai, couldn't have children, Sarai gave Hagar to Abraham so that Abraham would at least have a child. Ishmael was the end result. I don't believe that Abah is a name from the bible, but Ahab (not Abah) was one of the most wicked kings of Israel from the Old Testament.
Yes. Arabs consider Ishmael, Abraham's son, to be their progenitor.
Ishmael's mother was Hagar, Abraham's maid-servant.
The son of Abraham and Hagar was Ishmael.
Abraham named Ishmael (Genesis 16:15).
