Why was the spread of Islam successful?

They had a powerfull weapon. This weapon is by far more powerfull than the best Tanks, Aircraft & Guns. This weapon is 'Faith'. True Faith that we believe God's will is driving us. We will once again command peacefully when the new Calipahte is made.

• He called for monotheism and worshiping Allah (God in English) as the one and only one God with no partner, no son, no companion, and no associate.
• He was known by his truthfulness and honest before calling for Islam.
• His call was against racism and discrimination based on color, gender, culture, or richness.
• His call is an extension to prophet Abraham (Ibrahim); Peace be upon him); call. This is very clear in the hajj (Muslim pilgrimage) rituals.
• In addition, Quran revelation was in Arabic. The verse structure of Quran and its inherent literal miracle was an evidence to Arabs that it is not a human text or poetry.
• On top of all the above, it was God will to spread his religion.

Beloved prophet Muhammad (May peace and blessings of Allah Almighty be upon him) din't BRING Islam to Arabia. Islam dates back to the arrival of Hazrat Adam (AS) and Hazrat Eve Hawwa (AS) on the earth. Hazrat Adam (AS) was the first human being, first messenger, first Prophet and Rasool and the first Muslim. Then he was followed by about 12 million prophets, inculding Hazrat Noah (AS), Hazrat Abraham (AS), Hazrat Izak (AS), Hazrat Jakob .... Hazrat Moses (AS) and Hazrat Christ (AS), all preaching Islam. The last of the Prophets is our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (MPBABUM). The religion given to all human beings by God is Islam.

Arabia before the Prophet-hood was a place full of sinful activities-idol worship, cruelty to women, burying alive young daughters, drinking, killing innocent people, and so on. Allah Almighty took pity on the Arabs and blessed Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (MPBABUM) with Prophet-hood for the guidance of the Arabs in particular and the whole humanity in general. He preached Islam and wiped out the evils prevalent in Arabia and adjoining countries. The message of Islam spread in the world later on.

Many reasons:

1) Islam adhered to the notion of only one creator. The concept in Islam is that there exists an entity who created everything -the Universe, or Cosmos, or all that is- and runs its affairs. That Creator is neither male, nor female; the Creator does not have any shape or form known to humans; no idol, no object of any kind can symbolize the Creator; the Creator always was and always will remain. This concept is far more appealing than any other. The word in Arabic for that Entity is Allah.

2) Islam set human beings squarely at the center of their actions. The Qur'an laid full responsibility on the individual and his or her actions for success in the After-Life; if your good deeds are heavier than bad ones, you enter Paradise; if your ill deeds are heavier than good ones, you enter Hell. But then, too, the Qur'an says again and again that God is Most Gracious, Most Merciful, that God will magnify peoples good deeds many fold, but will not magnify the ill deeds, which suggests forgiveness in the end is a possibility.

3) Islam restored women's rights in Arabia of that time; it gave women the right to own property and dispense it as they saw fit, but within the limits of the Islamic law; it gave women the right to separate from the legal bond of marriage, should circumstances so dictate. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said that Paradise lied under the feet of mothers.

4) Islam acknowledges and accepts the Biblical prophets and the revelations they received. It does not condemn any of them, nor their followers.

5) Islam says there is none other than the One and Only Creator who is deserving of worship by humans. This concept is appealing.

Islam spread quickly due to a number of factors. It is notable that although there are a few occurrences of Muslims carrying out the "Convert or Die" scenario, this is not the most common reason for Islam's expansion both in terms of territory and belief.

1) Arabia - What's that?: Prior to Mohammed, Arabia had been seen as a cultural and political backwater barely worth notice and therefore Mohammed's consolidation of the Arab Tribes was not seriously considered by the Byzantine and Sassanian Empires. This lead to a very porous southern defense and miscalculation of the Islamic Armies.

2) Byzantine-Sassanian Wars: Since the Byzantines and Sassanians considered each other the only real civilizations in the region, they fought each other numerous times in the early 600s C.E. over control of what is today East Turkey and Iraq. These were intense religious wars (Christian vs. Zoroastrian) and greatly weakened both empires at just the wrong time.

3) Tribal Command Structure: Arab Tribes and warriors owed their loyalty to their Sheikhs and leaders without fault because the Sheikh provided each person with all of the amenities and protection necessary to live a full life. Whenever the Arabs went to war, the Sheikhs could count on the ability to muster their tribesmen as soldiers without issue.

4) Support of the Locals: Since the Byzantine Empire and Sassanian Empire were engaged in religious zealotry, it stands to reason that they did not tolerate their religious minorities very well. The Muslims professed to (and did) treat minorities far better than either of these Empires. This led to religious minorities (especially Jews) from within the conquered territories helping Muslims to secure outposts and positions, freeing the Muslims to continue to spread the religion.

5) Citizenship by Conversion: The Islamic Empire was interesting in that being the leader or a person of import in the Empire was not contingent on ethnicity or place of birth as was the case of most prior empires. All a person had to do to gain power and prestige was to convert to Islam. This simple integration mechanism resulted in massive number of Persians, Berbers, and Turks converting to Islam. In fact, the furthest expansions of Islam (Spain, India, West China, South Russia, the Balkans) were all accomplished by non-Arabs (respectively Berbers, Persians/Mughals, Turkmen, Azeris, and Ottomans).

6) Warfare: The leaders charged with expanding the influence of Islam were thoughtful and diligent military leaders. Caliph 'Omar, who conquered much of the Levant, Egypt, Persia, and Iraq was well-known as a strategist and a fighter. It was this knowledge of warfare that allowed Muslim forces to expand the territory's influence.

7) Universality: Islam, as a religion, claims salvation for all people in all places, making the religion very attractive, especially to people born into low castes and bad economic positions.

8) Commerce: Islam, like most religions, spread also through peaceful means of commerce and education whereby non-Muslims learned of the faith and adopted as their own amidst business dealings with Muslims.
