The most common method was to burn incense as a sign of respect; there was also prayer.

Worship is something you do. The older religions such as Hinduism and Paganism worshipped god by offerings. Since their god provided them with many things, the people wanted to pay them back. Although they knew they could never pay them back, they would attempt as a sign of respectcand worship. They would offer a seat, place a statue in their honor representing the deity they worshipped. Bathe the statue with water, milk, honey etc. Clean it, offer clothing, food, water... In European paganism they would offer wine. And light incense and a candle or flame which they would wave around the statue to adore the features. In so,e cases around the world they would do a fire sacrifice where they would offer many things to the fire to take to the Gods. In India they offer clarified butter and samagri which is a mixture of ingredients. They would be offered into the fire accompanied with prayers called mantras in India. This is called a Havan Yagna in India, Haoma Yasna in Persia, and igni sacrifice in Europe. This culture belongs to the indo-Europeans aka the Aryans. Today 0% of this culture resides in Europe, 10% in Iran, and the Middle East. And 90% resides in India and among Indians throughout the world.
