It is very possible to lose pieces of your memory that become too traumatic to deal with. If you are finding that loss is strong enough that it is disturbing you then I'd suggest going to a psychiatrist. Loss of memory can lead to a dissociative state where you just unplug from life. It is a physical response not a mental illness. Look up EMDR therapy that may help and quickly.

There is no way to selectively remove memories. You could try hypnosis to relegate it to your subconscious instead of constantly dwelling on it. But your best solution is to get counseling to change the way that you feel about the memory, so that it becomes as positive an influence as possible. If it were possible to eradicate memories, many people would be glad to forget, especially those who suffer traumatic events (war experiences, tragic deaths, guilt over actions or failure to act).
