Report it. If it is happening on a social networking website, or a forum, for example, report it to the website (you will find appropriate email address/help section in their FAQ). If it is happening on WikiAnswers then inform a supervisor. If you are being cyberbullied on an IM program or somewhere else on the internet then always tell someone. I.e your parents or another adult you can trust. Also, if it's on IM then you can use the block feature to prevent this person from talking to you. You can also block the person that is bullying you so that they cannot contact you anymore. If the bullying gets severe and you aren't being listened to the people who run the site where you are being bullied, or you can't get hold of them, then don't hesitate to contact the police, bullying is a serious offence. Obviously you don't call 999 and tell them that you are being bullied unless you are at serious risk but you contact the local police station and take the print screen images of the bullying with you. The police will be able to find out who was bullying you, if you didn't already know who was, and they will be able to take serious action.

If you or someone you know is being cyber bullied, you should report it to your family, administrators, and the website on which they are being bullied.
There aren't necessarily any ways you can "prevent" cyber bullying, but you can stop it when it happens. If you feel as though you or someone you know is being cyber bullied, you should report it to your parents, school administrators, and to the officials of the site on which you are being bullied.
