To put it simply, if a society defines health as the well being and general happiness of a society, it will aim to make its citizens happy. If a society defines being healthy as being physically fit and healthy, it will aim to make its citizens physically fit. Here in Canada, you are healthy if you have no diseases, infections, or other illnesses, therefore our doctors constantly look for cures and preventatives for things, and therefore if you become unhealthy they can fix it. The citizens themselves pursue health by eating healthy and washing their hands about thirty times a day in order to prevent the spread of any infection. In a country like Zimbabwe or Kenya you are healthy if you do not have AIDS, or life threatening infections and diseases, and can walk somewhat normally. Therefore they pursue health less broadly as we do, as their specifications are smaller.
