Immigration = people coming in. Emigration = people going out. In America, immigration is a bigger problem than emigration because more people are entering the country than leaving it. Or...in America, immigrants come from other countries to live in America. Emigrants leave America to go live in other countries. Both words are relative that whatever country you are in. Example: if a Canadian moves from Canada to America, he/she is an immigrant TO America but an emigrant FROM Canada.
