Can you compare and contrast the caste system with a class system?

The Indian caste system, or varna, of India came about when the Aryans began speaking nomadic groups came to India about 1500 BC. The Aryans priests divided society into a caste system with four parts. The first varna were priests, the second was rulers and warriors, third in rank was farmers, craftspeople and traders. And the lowest rank was workers and servants. People couldn't change their caste and they had to marry and socialize with people from their own caste. In the united states class is determined by how much wealth you have, not usually by your occupation. The 3 classes are upper, middle and lower class. Most Americans fall into middle or lower class with the very people in the upper class. In American society, you aren't forced into one class. Our system is not based on religion like the caste system is.

Does the US have a caste system?

No, the United States does not. A Caste system focuses on certain "rungs" to a "ladder" type society where members of different castes do not intermingle. History would show that the top caste in countries that have them is typically the priesthood, with the bottom caste being made up of slaves. Castes like this do not exist in 21st Century US.However, although the castes are not named, and many people will deny it, there is a kind of unspoken caste system in the US, and it is falling along economic lines. There is an increasing gap between the very richest in the US and the very poorest. One can see this as a caste system because the increasing gapis not the result of anything that single individuals in either group are doing. There are systematic forces that are separating the two groups.

How does our system of democracy differ from Europe's?

Are you referring to the United States? Some countries in Europe have similar forms of democracy to the United States, that being a presidential system, but the United States is slightly different. In some European countries, the Prime Minister has more power than the recognized head of state (such as the monarch of President). But the United States is a full presidential system, and therefore has no Prime Minister. The United States is also a federation, which only a selection of European countries are (Germany, Russia, Switzerland, etc.). Furthermore, the United States is a recognized two-party country (ever since around 1853), where the Democrats and Republicans typically rule the country.

What party system began when the first Republican was elected president in 1860?

The party system that began when the first Republican was elected president in 1860 was the emergence of a two-party system dominated by Republicans and Democrats. The Republican Party was formed in the 1850s as an anti-slavery party, and the election of Abraham Lincoln as the first Republican president marked the start of their political dominance in the North and ultimately the reconfiguration of the party system in the United States.

What are the views of a Republican?

I'm not sure, but i think republicans are like more right-wing, and democrats r more left-wing. Democrats would support, say, giving food stamps to the really poor even if they don't put anything in the system. Republicans would probably not, cuz it would weaken the economy.
