The social structure of Nubia (or Kush) followed the same pattern as most social hierarchies in the classical world. The prestige of a person depended on how much cattle and land a man owned, not on the job he had. The aristocrats were near the top of the social pyramid, and kings were at the very top. Because Nubia was located so close to Egypt, many of their ideas diffused into Nubian culture. One of these ideas were that their kings were divine and influenced by the gods, making people revere them, and putting them at the very top of the pyramid.
