or if you want to know the distance of each lane i think lane 8 is something like 450m. if you measure from the start of the 400m back to the finish line and add 400m that should give the dist. you would travel in that lane

Typically a middle school track team may have one or people that can run a sub 55 second 400 meter in which case they are the best on the team.

this is a little off i think if you run a 54 you could get first in state. under 60 is decent 57 or lower is what you should be aiming for

I disagree. I'm part of a slow district, but 54 in middle school is nuts. I'd say that very good is the range provided for "good" and the real number for good is around 59. Average would be anywhere from 60-64.

Dude... for 8th im the best in our conference thingy, and i got 56. 1:00-1:05 is acceptable. 1 to 58ish is getting pretty good, and under that is beast.

for boys a good time would probably be 5:15 to 6:30 and for girls it would be 6:15 to 7:45

A good time i believe would probably have to be a 1:18:00 - 1:25:00... so a minute and 18 seconds to 1 minute and 25 seconds!! because there are so many 7th and 8th grade kids who run the 400m dash from 1:12:00 down to 55 seconds!!

Hey, I'm a 14 year old freshman and I haven't run a high school track meet yet (just training now) but last year my 400m time was 1:10, which was pretty good, but there were better on my team. good luck this season! :)

There really isn't much of an average. But, the ones on a track team would usually get in the 50's and 60's. Maybe for JV, late 50's to mid 70's. It all depends. You could see some high school athletes maybe get 45 seconds, or some which might get in the 2 minute range. For the ones who get in the 2 minute range, don't feel bad for your time, because maybe you might be built more for throwing events or a different sport.

an average time for a freshmen girl is about 1:03. that's average. if u can do better than a minute, that's better than most guys at a freshmen level. The fastest girl at my school, for the 400 ran a 59 seconds and she was a sophmore so

500 meters of swimming is only ten laps. In yards it is twice as much which is 20.

well iv been running track for a long time and the fastest sophomore that i have seen run the 400 meter dash is in 49.3 and my personal best a sophomore was a 52.6. Out of all of the people i have seen run it is either from 48.3 to 56.8 in a track meet.So if you run anywhere between the two you should be fine.

In my opinion, it is not if you are running anything more than a 55m dash. Since there are so many turns, you most likely won't get as good times as on a 400m track.

if you want money to college for running you need to run 50 or under. to be top 10 nationally you need a 46.5- 47 at least. 47-48 is still in a very elite category. I have seen freshman come in running 62 and end up running 50 by senior year and i have seen freshman running 55 run 53 as seniors, it depends a lot on body maturity. However a most recent graduate of mine ran 56.6 as a freshman 51.9 as a sophmore 49.4 as a junior and 48.5 as a senior. He now runs division one

Hmm... depends on what country you're in. In America I would venture to say that the average 5th grade girl wouldn't even start running in the first place but if forced will probably finish it by the end of the period after expending twice the effort in complaining how long it took and how hard it was.
