Do you start CPR after cessation of agonal breathing?

Since agonal breathing will not support life, when agonal breathing occurs it is the same as no breathing; so immediately proceed with care.

Another name for the recovery position?

Some people use synonymously recovery position and modified H.A.IN.E.S. recovery position. As you can see from the related link, they are slightly different.

Recovery position - series?

Procedure, part 1

If the victim is breathing and in no need of chest compressions and CPR, the victim should be placed in the recovery position. The recovery position helps keep the victim's airway open. To put the victim in the recovery position grab the victim's leg and shoulder and roll him or her towards you.

Procedure, part 2

Continue to roll the victim until he is on his side.

Procedure, part 3

Adjust the top leg so that both the hip and knee are bent at right angles. Gently tilt the head back to keep the airway open. Keep the person warm until medical help is obtained. If breathing or circulation stops at any time, roll the person back on to his or her back and begin CPR.

What is the best way to determine unresponsiveness during CPR?

Ask the victim loudly and repeatedly, "Are you okay!" If they do not answer the question, it only stands that they are unresponsive.

Chest compression in child?

Compress the chest about 1 1/2 inches per compression.

How do you proform CPR?

The best way to learn to perform CPR is to take a class from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. The related link is fairly good at explaining the steps.

What are the differences in CPR for an unconscious adult with a pulse and an unconscious adult without a pulse?

CPR for the lay person, denoted just CPR, there is no longer a pulse check for an adult, so once CPR is started, it will be continued unless the person begins to show signs of life.

In CPR-FPR (CPR for the Professional Rescuer) there is still a circulation check, so RB at 1 breath / 5 seconds is part of that certification.

To specifically answer your question, most people would do CPR and not check for a pulse on an adult, because it is not part of the curriculum.

For a professional person, they would perform rescue breathing with a pulse and CPR without a pulse.

What is an AED certification?

An AED certification is a certification that you have been trained in the proper use of an AED.

How do you give a fish CPR?

It is not possible to give a fish CPR.

Can you touch the child when AED is analyzing?

Is it possible to break the xiphoid process if you fell down and your lower chest hit the bed frame?

it can be easily broken during CPR if the person isn't in the proper location applying pressure.

deducing from that, if someone elses weight on it, (trying NOT to break it) pressing on it can break it, then im certain that you could do it with your own weight as well. look up some anatomy pictures to make sure you've actually hit the xiphoid, and make sure that your feeling the proper area.

i have to arch my back slightly and take a wide deep breath to actually feel it (and i weigh 138, 5'10"). if it seems to move freely at all, then consult a doctor, you can puncture a lung, or any major organ nearby (heart!)

What do it mean to let the chest to recoil after each compression?

After you compress or push down onto the chest, let your weight come completely off of the patients chest. You can leave your hand on there but make sure that you arent depressing the chest.

What is the worst thing that you can do in an emergency?

The worst thing is to panic, it wastes time and has a bigger chance of someone finding you if your in a house with bad people. If that's what you mean by emergency, of course. NEVER I mean NEVER yell unless at least 3 people can hear you that will help.

How many CPR barriers are there?

There are numerous barriers; some more effective and safe than others. Short answer is 3 types; a mask, a non-rebreather mask, and a BVM.

The older microshield and other types without a 1-way valve should no longer be used. At least, you want a CPR mask that has a 1-way valve.

The next better would be the CPR mask with the O2 connection (and1-way valve).

As you get more into the clinical setting, a non-rebreather and BVM would be the other types.

How often do you check for signs of life during CPR on a child?

When starting your initial assessment on a child you check for breathing and a pulse. Once you begin CPR you should continue CPR until:

Another trainer responder arrives and takes over

You notice an obvious sign of live.

The scene becomes unsafe

You are too physically exhausted to continue

What does the compression rate mean?

The compression rate is the amount of compressions per a unit of time. The CPR rate is 100 compressions per minute; which means if you gave compressions straight through, no stopping, for 1 minute, you would have given 100 compressions. However, we give 30 compressions and then give 2 breaths, then back to compressions, so we average 75 actual compressions per minute, but we give the compressions at a rate of 100 per minute.

Why would profuse bleeding from the mouth occur during a choking episode that eventually required CPR?

Normally it wouldn't cause profuse bleeding from the mouth to occur during a choking episode that eventually required CPR. The foreign object likely was sharp and cut the persons mouth. The face, due to all the blood flow, does bleed profusely.

Do you have to pay to take the American Red Cross training course?

The American Red Cross offers many different types of training. In particular, the Standard First Aid and CPR courses are paid training which means you do have to pay a fee to take this course.

How does a vibrating object create compressions?

Vibration pushes then pull on the particles of air around it. The area where the air particles are pushed together is called compression.

An example is a stereo speaker.

What percent is the chance of survival increased by when the AED is used?

According to the related link, Seaway News, "Rapid defibrillation and CPR can increase survival rates up to 70 percent. However, defibrillation must occur within the first few minutes.".
