Do not use pediatric pads on an adult. They may not deliver enough energy.

Do not defibrillate someone who is in contact with water. Move them away from puddles or out of the rain before defibrillating.

Do not use an AED on someone wearing a medication patch. With a gloved hand remove the patch before attaching the pads.

There is some controversy. Some say five thrusts of the Heimlich maneuver should be performed if the person has been underwater and the person is unconscious followed by CPR if there is no pulse/breathing. Others say that if no pulse/breathing is present, CPR should be started immediately without any thrusts of the Heimlich.

You would apply the pads as close to that spot as possible. You can even apply one on the back and one on the front if necessary. You just have to make sure the electrical impulse generated by the AED travels through the heart.

You could just do compressions at a speed of 100/minute, or you could do the 'mouth to mouth' part without the barrier. It all depends on you and how well you know the person. Either way, make sure EMS has been called!
