Why do legumes cause gas?

Legumes can cause gas because they contain a sugar, oligosaccharide, which is a large molecule that is not broken down and absorbed by the lining of the small intestine as other sugars are. This is because the humans do not produce alpha-galactosidase, the enzyme that breaks down oligosaccharides. The oligosaccharides pass through to the large intestine intact, where bacteria break them down. The bacteria produce the gas. You can add alpha-galactosidase in the form of an enzyme supplement just before eating, although it is not appropriate for people with diabetes or the genetic disease galactosemia, as it may lead to an increase in blood sugar level in general and galactose in particular. Because the alpha-galactosidase is grown on a fungus, people who have mold allergies may have an allergic reaction to the supplement. The most popular brand of enzyme, Beano, contains gelatin from fish, so vegetarians may want to use a brand called BeanZyme, which is vegan.

How does the small intestine work with other systems to keep the body healthy?

The small intestine is a key part of the digestive cycle. It begins in your mouth with the chemical and mechanical (chewing) breakdown of food. Chewing breaks down the food and mixes it with saliva and mucus and CACA (helps bond food together). When food is swallowed it enters the esophagus and travels to the stomach using a muscular contraction called peristalsis. The contents are then emptied into the stomach and are broken down even more by gastric juices that contain digestive enzymes along with the contraction of the stomach which moves the contents to the beginning of the small intestine (duodenum). The bile and pancreatic duct empty their excretions in the duodenum. The bile breaks down fats while the pancreatic enzymes help break down other food particles. The majority of absorption takes place in the second part of the small intestine (jejunum). Nutrient and fat particles are absorbed by the walls of the jejunum while the excess waste is sent further down through the large intestines which prepare it for excretion by reabsorbing all liquid. The intestinal wall is covered in finger like villi which contain a network of blood vessels (capillaries). These absorb the available nutrients and transport it to the liver. The fat particles are also absorbed, but taken into the circulatory system. - km

Can a person become dependent upon glycerin suppositories for bowel movements?

By overusing suppositories or anything that induces a bowel movement you can in effect weaken the smooth muscle tissue of your bowels and disrupt the normal rhythm. If you're having problems and currently relying on suppositories, lower the amount of times you use them during the week, look for natural alternative methods, and only use them when absolutely necessary.

What can you do if you cannot stop passing gas?

you can keep an eye on your diet, maybe change it about a bit, try new things, swap some old things, beans make me fart, but i don't eat beans very much now and i don't fart very much now either!

however i would not recommend taking foods out of your diet unless you don't like them or have a reaction to them, just limit them and see how it goes, and as always try to replace it with something that does the same jobs it does, as you need the nutrients and vitamins from the food you eat.

you should get some info on foods and what they do and as always maybe even see your doctor if you feel worried and or need advice on these things.

How is coffee decaffinated?

There are a few different ways of removing caffeine, but often a solvent will be used to extract caffeine from the coffee bean while leaving all the other chemicals in tact. This is then repeated several times to extract even more caffeine.

Other methods involve soaking of the beans to remove caffeine, and subsequently filtering the caffeine out of the water while keeping the beans and extracted coffee solids together.
