Pythons

Pythons are a family of non-venomous snakes that are native to Africa, Asia and Australia. Pythons are ambush predators that use constriction to kill their prey. Unlike female boas, female pythons lay eggs. Pythons are hunted for their skin, which is used, like leather, to make shoes, handbags and other fashion accessories. Reticulated pythons grow extremely quickly. If fed properly, they should reach 7-8 ft in their first year, then 10-12 ft in their second year, until they reach their full size. If they are a dwarf or super dwarf version they will grow as quickly early on, but their growth will slow down quicker.

What should you breed with your normal ball python to get a piebald?

If you are wanting to get Pied Ball Pythons out of a normal you will have a bit of trouble.. You would first have to find a Ball Python that is Heterozygous (HET) Pied. You would then have to breed the HET to the normal and get HET Pied babies. If you are worried about inbreeding then you would need two Normals and Two HET pieds so you would have two clutches of HET Pied babies. you would then have to wait till they are breeding age and breed the HET Pieds together. The odds of getting a Pied are about 20% or so from two HET pieds. Of course you could just buy two HET Pieds and leave the normal out of it. The first method is a run around way to do it without putting down a grand on a pure Pied as apposed to the $120+ for Het Pieds. I hope this answer helps you out.

Will a ball python eat a boa or will a boa eat a ball python?

A boa can eat a ball python... It's happened before. I'm not sure if pythons could eat boas though. I don't think pythons are cannibalistic.

Can ball pythons see?

They can in fact see, they also use they're tongue as a sense of where they are, and memory.

What is a phyton?

I'm sorry, d'you mean a python? If so, it's a large, non-venemous snake which kills by constriction. The longest record snake was a reticulated python, at 33 ft. in length.

What does it mean if a ball python opens its mouth?

If the snake is about to enter shed they will do this also sometimes they do it to cool off and/or stretch. However if it is not preparing to shed it is usually a sign of a respiratory infection (very serious and life threatening for your snake). So if its not time for it to shed you should see a vet ASAP. Other signs are that it makes abnormal noises and has difficulty breathing. Make sure your temps are set right and you have the right humidity for your snake. Having to much or to little humidity (usually to much it is not as common with to little) is what causes this infection to begin with. If it has the infection it will die unless it sees a vet for treatment. If you choose to watch it and see if it gets worse you should do some research on ball pythons getting respiratory infection (AKA RI) so you can better understand whats going on. Also it could be mouth rot or any other number of health problems (which is why I strongly recommend a vet).

How long after feeding your ball python should you wait before handling it?

between 24 and 48 hours is good. if it is a young snake wait at least 48 hours. if it is older, you might be able to take it out sooner.

What types of snakes don't get IBD?

IBD has only been found in Boas and in rare cases Burmese Pythons. Snakes outside of those families have not been found so far to have IBD. Mites have been known to transfer it between host but snakes such as King snakes and Corn snakes have not been found to contract it. If you are considering a species for a pet that is not susceptible to IBD I recommend Corn Snakes. If you would still be interested in Pythons then Ball Pythons and Kenyan Sand Boas are good starts. Both are hardy and neither have had any known occurrence of IBD

Can bermes pythons eat a cow?

Can you handle a royal python often?

Depends entirely on the individual royal - some are find to handle every day and are really chilled out - others are stressed and won't take handling once a week well - depends entirely on the snake!

If you havn't got one yet and are thinking about it - definantly get a CB one rather than a CF or WC one as they will TEND to be more chilled. No guarantees though!

Can a burmese python and a reticulated python live in the same tank?

I wouldn't recommend it - the Reticulated python will eventually weigh more than twice that of the Burmese Python - and could theoretically crush it under the weight of the heavier snake.

How can a green tree python snake live in Australia?
