Eid al-Fitr, often abbreviated to Eid, is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. Eid is an Arabic word meaning "festivity", while Fiṭr means "to break fast"; and so the holiday symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period.

Christmas is not a Muslim holiday, therefore, Muslim countries do not celebrate it. Muslims in the United States often request that their children not attend Christmas functions at school because the belief of Jesus, peace be upon him, being the son of God runs directly against the core Muslim belief.

In Ramadan, Muslims eat once before dawn and then they fast all day until sunset. After sunset they can break their fast with whatever they want but it is recommended to break fasting with dates and water. Then, Muslims can eat whatever they want as long as it is not haram (not allowed).

First and foremost for a Muslim anything that has been commanded by Allah and the Prophet Muhammed(SAW) is to be followed and obeyed thus we Muslims being commanded to do so hear and obey. Secondly it provides a separate and unique identity for the Muslim so that even though he would live amidst Non-Muslims but can scycologically isolate himself from activities that are non Islamic. Thirdly it reminds Muslims of their origins as this calender starts from the time when the Holy Prophet Muhammed(SAW) migrated along with his followers to Madinah from Mecca and established the first Islamic government in Madinah. Fourthly the Hijri Calender is lunar and not solar and thus Muslims can enjoy many activities such as fasting and Eid in different seasons of the year and not remain stagnant in the summer or winter.

Ramadan is a holy month observed during the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and the exact dates change from year to year. Basically its a little over 1 month of fasting, prayer, and self-sacrifice. It is a time to focus on your relationship with God. This means that Muslims cannot eat from sunrise to sunset.
When i say we cannot eat, i mean:
1)no food OF ANY KIND can enter your system
2)no drink, including water
3)no sex during fasting hours (of any kind)
Ramadan is the month during which the Quran was revealed, providing guidance for the people, clear teachings, and the statute book. Those of you who witness this month shall fast therein.... (2:185) so we better read the holy book(koran) at least once.
Muslims were ordered to fast compulsory fasting during the day and at the night Sunnah prayers.
It is also a time for focusing on cleaning up your life. You are to Abstain from using or listening to obscene words, having unclean thoughts, and going to sinful places.
