Yes it is. Although it is a common misconception that stores such as Target and Walmart are not department stores because they do not have check outs in individual departments, they are technically considered discount department stores because they offer a wide range of goods and satisfy multiple needs.
How long do you have to work for Walmart before you can transfer Walmart stores?
You have to work for Walmart for 6 months unless its an emergency case before you can transfer to another stow.
You also cannot have any coachings on file as a general rule as well. It used to be that the managers/you contacted the store you wanted to go to, and work things out that way, but now walmart has created "career preferences", where you go onto the "wire" at work and submit your request. It is still best to contact the store in addition to this, to let them know more about yourself, instead of waiting for them to contact you. You also might have them tell you what positions they have open. Keep in mind that some stores promise positions, but then magically fill them when you come over, and you are stuck with something else.
How many bicycle do the assemblers at WAL-MART have to assembled per day?
At the store I work at the focus is on quality, and not quantity. The bikes we sell are utter garbage. < $100 for a 21-speed bike? lol? We know this, and take our time to make sure that each bike is "as good as it's gonna get." That said, my personal best for an 8-hour day was a 3 bike/hour average. +/- 24 bikes in one day for myself. Most were small 12" bikes that come packaged 2 to the box. The larger bikes (20"-26") can take 30-45min to build. The derailers on the cheaper bikes take the most time.
The average would be something like this:
26" bikes - ~9 / day
24" bikes - ~9 / day
20" bikes - ~11 / day
18" and under - ~16 / day
Those numbers are based on zero customer interruption throughout the day. Chances are that someone will return a bike, bring one in for some adjustments, or even require your assistance before purchasing a new bike. Also, Wal-Mart assemblers are not restricted to building bikes. They build furniture, store displays (playground equipment and the like), and any Site-to-Store item that has been ordered to be assembled. Each of these things affects the end result logirithmically.
If you're planning on buying an assembled bike from Wal-Mart I advise you to go over it once before you ride it; make sure everything's tight and well-adjusted.

I am a walmart associate and former salary manager. I think the person above did a great job at answering how many bikes they can assemble. I see that you asked how many does walmart require them to though. That is a great question. To be honest there is nothing put in writing on how many bikes a person must assemble a day. The bikes assemblers often are required to put together furniture and may also be required if need be to help put together items in lawn/garden. Most stores will look at how many outs they have on the bicycle rack and just be on the assembler to make sure the outs are put together and stocked if the store has the bikes, and of course put together any items customers are wanting put together (they are buying, etc.), and evaluate them on that.

Is profit always a good thing?
Well, you have to remember, if there is no profit there is no business. Businesses must make a profit in order to survive. In this sense profit is good. That being said, businesses should show social responsibility, and should be held accountable for what they sell and how they sell it. In this sense, profit made through means that hurt society or the individuals within a society (to include employees as well as customers) should be noted as not good.

Why not to buy Walmart skateboards?
Voodoo 13: Many people that skate like to flaunt their new 'name brand' boards.. I have dozens of expensive boards, but if you have never skated before Wal mart or target or Toys-r-us is the perfect place to buy a cheap bord to practice on. What if you find that you don't like skatebording as much as you thought?? Well if you spend $160+ for a 'pro' board instead of $40 at the store you wont feel as bad.. Or if you fall while practicing riding and you watch the $160 board roll under a car getting crushed..you really won't feel as bad if you bought a cheap one... I've always said buy cheap until you're ready for a 'name brand' board. Don't let anyone give you crap because it's not from the skateshop.. you're a beginner and your 4 wheels spin on the street the same as the guy who paid big bucks..
